February 24, 2016:New Asheville Police Chief

Tammy Hooper took over as head of Asheville’s troubled police department on July 20, 2015.  Now, after seven months on the job, she is earning high marks from her colleagues, from outside agencies and from neighborhood groups.

In a recent interview, she told the Asheville Citizen-Times her emphasis is on openness and transparency.  She says “I think we have a collective will to… put the negativity behind us and move forward and take the department to where it really needs to be.”
